From post office building to city landmark
The iconic building dating back to 1908, which still evokes memories for many residents of Lokeren, has been given a new purpose. Today, it houses Visit Lokeren on the ground floor, the city archives with climate-controlled storage facilities on the upper floors, and a council chamber and stylish reception area on the top floor.
The challenge was to integrate a modern technical infrastructure into a protected heritage building without compromising functionality or user experience.
A carefully considered electrical approach
Elektro Kamiel Smet was responsible for the complete electrical installation. We provided a solid technical foundation, including distribution boards, power supplies and extensive electrical circuits tailored to the building’s various functions.
We also implemented an intelligent lighting control system that offers flexibility for different usage scenarios while contributing to energy efficiency.
In addition, the building’s safety and operational reliability were enhanced through:

In the council chamber, we installed an advanced camera system that automatically tracks and zooms in on speakers. This enables the City of Lokeren to livestream council meetings to its residents.

The project also required precise coordination between the building’s historic and newly renovated sections. All systems needed to work together seamlessly despite the complexity of the environment.
