Multi-techniques for the new Landmark reception building at UZ Brussels
With Landmark, UZ Brussels has developed a new central reception building on its healthcare campus in Jette. EEG brought together multiple technical disciplines to create a comfortable, sustainable, and future-oriented environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
A new face for UZ Brussels
What started as a construction site in 2022 has evolved into Landmark, a new landmark on the UZ Brussels healthcare campus in Jette. Thanks to this project, the hospital now has a central entrance that welcomes patients and visitors while bringing together a range of medical and support functions.
The building features a public reception area, office floors for support services and medical staff, and various technical facilities. From the central entrance hall, patients and visitors can easily find their way through the hospital.
Architecturally, Landmark is equally impressive. Its timber façade structure, glass curtain wall, and eight-metre-high glazed sections create a striking sense of transparency. Strong emphasis was also placed on sustainability, energy efficiency, and passive building principles.
A technically complex building requires integrated expertise
Behind the architecture lies an extensive technical infrastructure. To deliver it, several EEG entities combined their expertise.
EEG Sint-Martens-Latem, EEG Gullegem, EEG Digital Buildings, and Beltherm collaborated on the HVAC systems, electrical infrastructure, ventilation, and digital solutions. By integrating these disciplines from the outset, comfort, energy efficiency, and technical reliability could be optimally aligned.
The scope of work included interior and emergency lighting, fire detection, access control, data networks, multimedia and information systems, as well as the fit-out of six office floors and the double-height entrance area.
Technology concentrated on two critical levels
A significant part of the technical infrastructure is located within two dedicated technical zones.
On level -2, we installed, among other systems, air handling units and pipe manifolds. A second technical zone is located on the seventh floor and includes air handling units, pipe manifolds, chillers, UPS installations, and a transformer.
These technical hubs supply and control multiple building functions. The reliability of these installations is essential to the daily comfort of employees, patients, and visitors, as well as to the continuity of hospital operations.
Multi-technical collaboration as the key to success
Landmark is an excellent example of how different technical disciplines within EEG strengthen one another. Combining HVAC, electrical systems, ventilation, and digital infrastructure requires continuous coordination between all teams involved.
By bringing this expertise together within one group, EEG was able not only to deliver individual installations but also to contribute to a coherent technical ecosystem in which all systems operate efficiently and reliably.
This integrated approach perfectly meets the requirements of a modern healthcare environment, where technology always serves the people who use the building.
Comfort and accessibility at the heart of the project
Landmark is more than just a new building on campus. As the central entrance, it now serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors at UZ Brussels.
Its transparent architecture, clear circulation routes, and modern technical infrastructure contribute to a pleasant, accessible, and comfortable environment. For EEG, this is what building technology is ultimately about: delivering installations that make a tangible contribution to the well-being and comfort of end users.
